What In the World Is Going On?
Yep. The rumors are true. Andy Mylin actually attempted with cartoonish pen and an Elmo projector to tackle the end times last Sunday night, continually thanking Jonathan, we might add, for the privilege of being assigned such a friendly and welcoming topic. The air was light and the mood was pure frivolity as Andy drew the Great White Throne, the Lake of Fire, and a number of apocolyptic figures on the big screen…
Suzy Weibel here, checking in for Centre Church. As I write this blog I am actually out on the road with Secret Keeper Girl Tour. It’s been awesome in terms of ministry! In the first four nights alone we saw over 3800 moms and tween girls in our audiences, witnessed 65 new princesses in the Kingdom of God, and nearly 100 families jumped on board with James 1:27 and are now sponsoring an orphaned child through Holt International.
We’re hanging in there as a team, too – myself, Paul and Abbie Uber, Melanie Cherland and Jacqueline Gardner – are all Centre Church peeps. (We’re taking good care of our buddy Watson Cosand from Nashville, too.) It’s crazy, isn’t it, that our little church gets to be part of something that’s having such a national impact? We love it, and we think the work we are doing is important. But it’s tough sometimes.
It’s tough to be away from family and all of the comforts of home. Our nights often consist of a 2 a.m. hotel arrival and a 11 a.m. lobby call. We’re all starting to think we’re rock stars. (No drugs though we promise!) Once a head cold sets in it’s pretty hard to get rid of . Work days are long, the van is cramped, and the food situation is always hit or miss. We meet great people everywhere we go, but this is a ten show run… those are a lot of pleasantries to be exchanged, and they are often the same from day to day.
So why do we do this? Remember that first paragraph? Those 65 new princesses? And if you could be a fly on the wall after even one show, you’d see why it’s all worth while. If you could see the look in one mom’s eyes when she breathes a sigh of relief that she had this special night with her daughter. If you could see moms and girls wipe tears from their eyes as they hold one another and pray. If you could see the sparkle in a nine year old’s eyes after she’s just had what she’s pretty sure is the best night ever!
Centre Church is tough sometimes, too. We are small. Everyone has to work harder to make things happen. What a team of volunteers do in a larger church, Jason and Chelsea Donaldson do all by themselves week after week! If you see them loading that trailer next week, be sure you stop to thank them!
It’s hard to lose a week of tithing because of a surprise snowfall. It’s tough to lose a week of Financial Peace University because we don’t own a building and our borrowed room was locked up for spring break. Holidays are scary; sometimes a third of our congregation is out of town visiting family!
So why do we do this? Why are you Centre Church? It’s a good question – and I’ll bet you have some pretty awe inspiring answers! Difficulty should be expected if the kingdom of darkness is being infiltrated with light. I, for one, wouldn’t want it any other way.
And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good. II Thessalonians 3:13
Love you, Centre Church!
